Samer Anabtawi has taken a key leadership role in developing the social justice tradition at Illinois College. He established the first local chapter of Amnesty International, which carries out campaigns protesting and taking action against human rights violations worldwide. Through the Progressive Action Coalition, he organizes service projects and coordinates efforts with other student organizations to promote service, values of equality, nonviolence, peace and tolerance, interfaith dialogue, economic and social justice. Mr. Anabtawi was recently selected to participate in the “New Story Leadership” program, a 2-month service and leadership program that takes place in Washington, D.C. this summer.
