Yuan Huang, Temple University, Pennsylvania

Yuan Huang is a sophomore majoring in Geography and Urban Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. Huang is active in the local community through a variety of projects focused primarily on support for young people. She is involved with a student organization which promotes gardening among inner-city youth, with a focus on understanding science through food. Huang worked to increase student involvement in the effort from three to thirty, facilitating the establishment of three community gardens. She also tutors public school
children in Chinese and with the Honickman Learning Center’s after school program for teens. On campus, Huang has worked with the Office of Sustainability on conferences and youth development efforts and contributed to a number of service learning projects through the Community Learning Network.
