Alessa Abruzzo, Temple University

Alessa Abruzzo is a Temple University junior dedicated to helping underserved Philadelphia high school students achieve college access.   An AmeriCorps “Scholar in Service,” Ms. Abruzzo helped to establish the new “Diamond College Access” (DCA) tutoring program, recruiting Temple students to tutor at Benjamin Franklin High School and with a Mayor’s Office initiative, PhillyGoes2College.   For the Free Library of Philadelphia, Ms. Abruzzo developed college access resources, led college fairs and provided leadership training to high school students serving as literacy tutors for younger children.
