Alexis Clowney, Winthrop University

Alexis Clowney, a junior Special Education major at Winthrop University, is a passionate advocate for children in poverty. This passion led her to create SCOPE: Students Challenging Others to Promote Education, a successful student-led tutoring program that develops reading and math skills of low income, high need children. Alexis also serves as Student Coordinator for the Ebenezer Avenue Leadership Academy where she teaches leadership exploration and practice to 26 middle school youth.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
