Daniel Alter, Amherst College

Daniel Alter, a junior at Amherst College, is working to ensure public schools work well for all students. After volunteering in a Washington, D.C. classroom via City Year, Daniel worked to engage virtually every student at Amherst with the public schools. Because of his efforts, every athletic team at the college is engaged with communities, as tutors, mentors or coaches. He helped launch Splash, a Saturday school for middle and high school students. He advocated to increase education courses at the college, and helped organize an education career fair. He is now fundraising with the Advancement Office to make a commitment to public education one of the strengths of Amherst College.

Thanks for your continued outstanding leadership at Campus Compact. Your publications and programs are always top-notch. I sincerely appreciate all you have done for us in the trenches."
