Gladys Valle, Stetson University

Gladys is a sophomore Psychology major at Stetson University. She links academic work with her passion for youth empowerment. She has committed to serving 300 hours in the College Access AmeriCorps Program, mentoring youth in the DeLand community. She has been heavily involved in the Teach One to Lead One program dedicated to transforming at-risk youth into responsible citizens by building character based on practical leadership skills and universal ethical principles. This past year Gladys has committed her time to creating a program specifically for high school girls that want to improve their self-esteem. Gladys has decided that she would like to become a probation officer for the Department of Juvenile Justice when she graduates from Stetson University.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
