Isabel Thottam, Emerson College

Isabel Thottam, a junior at Emerson College, has been consistently dedicated to serving her community.  For instance, she has been a resident assistant for two years, and a leader and participant in our Alternative Spring Break program where she focused on disaster recovery, ecological restoration, and sustainable agriculture issues. Additionally, she serves with Samaritans and will run the 2012 Boston Marathon as a member of their team. Isabel’s dedication to the issues of depression and suicide-prevention led her to found Hold on Another Day, a non-profit dedicated to the well being of others and offering inspiration through music.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."
