Jennifer Sechrist, Valparaiso University

Jennifer Sechrist, a junior at Valparaiso University, is deeply committed to the issues of health literacy, global health care, and community-based research. On campus, she is active in the student Social Action Leadership Team.  As part of a Valparaiso University research team, Jennifer researched health care in rural Thailand. This summer, she will enhance her leadership skills in both direct and indirect patient care at the Rochester Mayo Clinic Summer nursing program.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."
