Kelsey Herbert, a junior at Hope College, has a passion for social justice. She is a leader in the in the College’s Hope United for Justice group. Kelsey is a Site Leader for the LdOut3 Leadership Training program teaching leadership to students at Grant High Schools. She is involved with Holland’s Sierra Club chapter, BeyondCoal campaign advocacy, and the Not for Sale campaign. Last summer, Kelsey was part of Kids Alive International in the Dominican Republic, where she taught a six-week summer program in Spanish to children in an orphanage.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC.
