Kevin Ferreira, Wagner College

Kevin Ferreira, a dynamic junior at Wagner College, fearlessly tackles challenges on- and off-campus by employing effective grassroots community organizing practices. Working with local public officials to more fully integrate immigrants into the fabric of city life, Kevin has mentored undocumented students across racial boundaries, and held college readiness workshops. Since his freshman year, Kevin has been working off-campus with El Centro del Inmigrante and the New York Immigration Coalition’s (NYIC) Education Collaborative to institute Family Resource Centers (FRCs), where schools partner with community-based organizations. Kevin also teaches in the We Are New York Conversational English program. In graduate school, Kevin plans to develop tools to create preventative and restorative responses to violent conflict in communities.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
