Rebecca Green, Franklin and Marshall College

Rebecca Green, a sophomore at Franklin & Marshall College, is actively engaged in human rights issues both globally and locally in Lancaster, PA. Through her work inthe student-run Human Rights Initiative, Rebecca engages issues around refugees, immigrants, women’s rights, and human trafficking. As the Human Rights Intern at the Ware Institute for Civic Engagement, she has established several programs for peers to tutor young refugee students and provide ESL instruction to adults. This summer, Rebecca will lead a group of F&M students back to South Africa to tackle public health issues through sports-based education for young girls while she does research for the Barometer of Gay Rights.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."
