Stephanie Hebert, Lake-Sumter Community College

Stephanie Hebert, a second year student at Lake-Sumter, is a student leader active in campus life, intercollegiate activities, and community organizations. Stephanie mentors elementary school students at local schools and is actively involved with local churches, organizing several programs and fundraisers. Ms. Hebert also found time to participate in Celebrate Literacy Week, work in a nursery at a local church, participate in the Angel Tree Gift Program, volunteer at campus United Way activities, and work as an assistant coach with the local youth volleyball program.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."
