Abigail Stokes, Westminster College

Abigail Stokes, a junior at Westminster College, is passionate about many social justice issues, as exemplified by her involvement in a wide variety of organizations. Through her volleyball team, she organized a Special Olympics volleyball tournament and bowling night. Abby is not afraid to put herself in the center of service, as evidenced by raising $375 for the American Cancer Society and, in turn, shaving her head to support the cause. She volunteered regularly at Our House: Caring for Callaway’s Homeless for two years, all while participating in various philanthropy and service projects with her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. Abby’s heart for justice has led her to become involved with Heifer International’s internship program, where she taught visitors to the Heifer Ranch through experiential learning programs about global hunger and poverty. She currently is an officer in Westminster’s social justice awareness organization, CIVICUS, where she coordinates the Soup Kitchen programming as well as other human rights-oriented events. As she prepares for a career in religious studies, she will continue to feed her passion for equality, justice, and service in order to leave this world better than when she entered it.

Campus Compact's workshops have been extremely valuable. Faculty often become energized by the workshop content and bring that enthusiasm back to campus."
