Ashley Tatro, Southern Vermont College

Ashley Tatro, a Health Care Management and Advocacy major at Southern Vermont College, is a active in several organizations and thoughtful about each one.  Ashley’s leadership has been invaluable with Alternative Spring Break. She can be counted on for anything, including being present with fundraisers, asking questions about the trip no one had thought of, and giving feedback. In the course of fundraising for the trip, it has been Ashley who has been committed to learn more about the community we will be serving and the many ways we can bring what we learn back to Bennington.  Ashley was happy to contribute an essay to win a national scholarship for the trip.  Ashley is humble in her perspective of her leadership, but she is a student who leads by example by doing the right thing and intuitively knowing how to provide for others. She is encouraging and is willing to build on others’ ideas and is sincerely delighted when the team comes together to accomplish goals.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."
