Brian Zuidervliet, a junior at Susquehanna University, is in his second year as the Sustainability Service Scholar, a joint position in the Earth & Environmental Sciences Department and the Center for Civic Engagement. Brian’s responsibilities include coordinating several campus-wide sustainability and service events including a No Impact Week, an Eco Challenge, and a “Share Our Stuff” drive that kept numerous items out of landfills and instead, available for reuse by local community-based organizations. In addition to his sustainability programming accomplishments, Brian single-handedly planned the 2012 Get Into Volunteer Experiences (G.I.V.E.) SU’s annual service day during fall orientation involving more than 650 volunteers.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way.
