Emma Lane, Providence College

Emma Lane is a Public and Community Service studies junior at Providence College. She is passionate about social justice and has a spirit of collaboration that allows her to work with the community. As a Community Assistant, Emma managed service learning volunteers placed at her community partner, Carroll Tower, an elderly public housing complex, where she taught English language classes. She led reflection sessions for volunteers, was the central point of communication, and built strong relationships with the residents. In addition to local service, for the past five years Emma worked with Simply Smiles, a Connecticut based non-profit. This past summer, she interned for the organization, living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico for nine weeks. While there, she helped organize food distribution programs, worked with local coffee farmers to re-vitalize their trade through a coffee cooperative, and started other projects such as building a school in the small village of Santa Maria Tepexipana, as well as health initiatives with the children in the village. Emma is also involved with organizing multiple service activities on campus and was inducted to the school’s honor society for academic excellence.

Thanks for your continued outstanding leadership at Campus Compact. Your publications and programs are always top-notch. I sincerely appreciate all you have done for us in the trenches."
