Lizzy Appleby, Elon University

Elizabeth (Lizzy) Appleby is a senior Philosophy major at Elon University. Throughout her college career, she has been passionately involved in social justice issues. In her first year, she was a member of the Service Learning Community which introduced her to service opportunities in Alamance County. She served as the Service Learning Community Director and oversaw a team of four Service Learning Leaders. Currently, Lizzy works as a SPARKS team leader where she leads peer education groups and raises awareness about health issues including, substance and alcohol education, sexual health and relationship violence, nutrition, and body image. As the Leadership and Development Intern in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, Lizzy provides leadership training to more than 125 student leaders who plan and implement service opportunities for undergraduates. Lizzy uses both of these positions as a vehicle for her passions of service, equality, and leadership development. After graduation in May 2013, Lizzy plans to continue broadening her knowledge and skills by attending the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
