Rosaline Zhang is a wonderful example of answering the fundamental question posed by Penn’s founder Benjamin Franklin: “What good may I do?” Rosaline’s work and leadership has had a positive impact in enhancing civic engagement at Penn and a local high school. Rosaline has integrated her academic work, passion for community health, and leadership talents to help address significant health education challenges facing the world as they are manifested in our local community. Through her creation of the SHIELD program, a partnership with a public high school and federally qualified health center, Penn and high school students learn and practice clinical skills while working side-by-side on community health promotion. Rosaline speaks eloquently about the ways her community engagement through academically-based community service courses and internships have contributed to her intellectual, professional, social, and civic development.
