Sally McGuire, a senior at Southwestern College, through a series of civic involvement opportunities and classroom education, focused her passion for positive contribution to the world in the area of sustainability. She has worked with a grass roots environmental group in lobbying for tax credits in the state legislature and has also used her voice in protest at the nation’s capitol. She designed an academic experience that integrated the disciplines of political science, leadership, and sustainability to help her build a knowledge and skill base to use as she engages in the public arena. Her capstone college experience was to introduce electronic waste disposal to a rural community. Sally sees problems as opportunities for her to make a difference and has great potential to continue to make contributions towards a more sustainable future.
