Ashley Gargano began her service involvement in a course working with New Americans at an ELL and evening activity program. She also organized a coat drive for the children of the program. Ashley took on the role of service learning coordinator at the program where she had begun her community involvement journey and she was selected to be student coordinator for service learning. She participated in the annual Alternative Break trip to South Africa and was selected to represent the group by presenting to the University Board of Trustees. Ashley has been a huge part of the success of our service learning program.

The Swearer Award has provided me with such an incredible venue for advocacy. At Penn, I've had the chance to speak to faculty, students, and alumni who are interested more than ever in supporting the civic mission of higher education.
