Emily Jones, North Shore Community College, MA

Emily Jones, a sophomore at North Shore Community College, is an advocate for gay rights, fair treatment for all people, and social change.  Whether re-building homes affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans (twice!) or speaking in front of hundreds of people to tell her personal story and solicit change, Emily engages others to make a difference.   A co-chair of the College’s Forum on Tolerance regarding bullying, she designed the event to attract a younger audience and rallied them to take a stand and use their voices.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
