Lisa Fralish, Hamline University, Minnesota

Lisa Fralish, a junior at Hamline University, is a student leader in a variety of programs focused on social justice, service learning and civic engagement. She is active in supporting the Catalyst Spring Break program through organizing, fundraising, curriculum development and facilitation. She is also involved in MPIRG, serving on the statewide board of directors.  She leads voter registration drives and organizes political forums on issues congruent with her values. Lisa believes that students have a voice and that informed citizens are essential to a well-functioning democracy. On campus, Lisa is committed to diversity and multicultural competencies development and has been a leader in the development of recommendations for student civic learning outcomes.

The Swearer Award has provided me with such an incredible venue for advocacy. At Penn, I've had the chance to speak to faculty, students, and alumni who are interested more than ever in supporting the civic mission of higher education."
