Nicole Collins, Bristol Community College, MA

Nicole Collins is a second year student leader who has been actively engaged in community projects as well as many other college activities. She is determined to find solutions to challenges facing our community such as adolescent drug addiction, low childhood literacy rates, and low high school retention rates.  Nicole has learned to work collaboratively with fellow students, volunteers, and non-profit agencies to provide assistance and services for those most in need.  As a young parent herself, she is working to provide support and information for other parents, students at risk, and Spanish-speaking families in our area.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."

-Amanda Coffin, University of Maine at Farmington, Campus Compact student leader
