Tamara Lewis, Governors State University, Illinois

Tamara is active in many efforts in support of both adults and youth in the Chicago area.  She volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club, works on efforts addressing hunger and homelessness in the community, and serves on several task forces committed to bringing economic growth and development to the south and south suburbs of Chicago. Beyond her community efforts, Tamara also coordinated over 100 social work students to attend the National Association of Social Workers’ Annual Advocacy Day.

The Swearer Award has provided me with such an incredible venue for advocacy. At Penn, I've had the chance to speak to faculty, students, and alumni who are interested more than ever in supporting the civic mission of higher education."

-Mei Elansary, University of Pennsylvania, recipient of Campus Compact's Swearer Student Humanitarian Award
