To continuously improve our programming and to create resources for philanthropic education, students and faculty participating in Students4Giving℠ are surveyed regularly. We collect data on demographics and on the impact of courses on philanthropic knowledge, skills, and behavior. Our evaluation is designed to respect the wide variety of disciplinary approaches through attention to common civic learning outcomes. This evaluation is aligned with the data collection efforts of the Pay it Forward initiative resulting in an expanded source of data to inform both research and teaching.
Much of the research on teaching philanthropy builds upon service-learning research to suggest new questions about approaches to civic education from a variety of disciplines. Below are summaries of research in progress and recently published work in the field.
