Brief Biography:
Deanna Berg began her career in 1997 as the only service-learning coordinator in the state of Mississippi and has been active in the field of higher education civic engagement ever since. She has held positions in both Oregon and California, working in faculty development, academic service-learning, non-profit administration, event planning, large group facilitation and AmeriCorps program administration. Deanna is most passionate about the power of student leadership and has developed such programs in almost every position she has held. Her most significant experience was as the Director of Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) at CSU, Chico where she oversaw 80 student leaders who implemented 20+ service programs for 2500 college students each year. Deanna now serves as the Director of Civic Engagement for CSU, Chico, where her efforts are aimed at realizing the public purpose of the institution at all levels. Deanna was a contributing editor to Establishing and Sustaining an Office of Community Service (Campus Compact, 2000) and has made many civic engagement presentations at state and national meetings.
