Brief Biography:
Duane Oakes has worked close with many aspects of student leadership and service programs for the past 18 years. He earned his Bachelors degree in Youth Leadership and his Masters in Recreation from Brigham Young University. He worked at the University of Wyoming helping assist their student government program activities. In 1991 he helped create the Student life program at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. At CGCC he served as the advisor for student government and worked with all student groups at the College. In 1994 he and his colleagues at Chandler-Gilbert Community College where recognized with the innovation of the year for their Service-Learning program he helped develop for the College. Oakes currently serves as the Faculty Director, for the Center for Service-Learning, a Recreation Faculty and serves as the Lead Advisor of Phi Theta Kappa International at Mesa Community College. He has worked in the higher education arena since 1990 helping students becoming better citizens through service and leadership. He is a service-learning and civic responsibility trainer for the Community College National Center for Community Engagement and the American Association of Community Colleges.
