Brief Biography:
I have nine years of experience building a service-learning program at a large two-year community college — Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN. In this time, we have grown from an ESL tutoring program of six mentors to over 1,000 students participating in course-based service-learning and volunteerism as well as over 100 America Reads/Counts tutors. We have recently added an Americorps M3C Fellows component and have participated in the Americorps VISTA program as well. We have secured grants for the past 8 years to assist in our program, as well as created two full-time campus-funded and one full-time half-grant/half-campus-funded positions. I have a wealth of experience on how to start and how to institutionalize a service-learning office. I also have a great amount of experience with faculty and community partner development. I serve as co-chair of our President's Council on Diversity and have a great passion around this topic, and see many correlations between the Council's work and service-learning/civic engagement.
