Barack Obama’s National Service Plan

President-elect Obama has published a comprehensive plan for involving Americans of all ages in service to their communities, the nation, and the world. Highlights of the plan include:

  • creating five new service Corps to meet pressing social challenges
  • expanding the Peace Corps, Senior Corps, and Americorps
  • increasing funding and resources for service-learning at the elementary, high school, and college levels
  • connecting disadvantaged young people with opportunities to serve and continue their education
  • investing in the capacity and innovation of non-profits
  • increasing support for members of the armed forces and their families

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
