Congress passed a short-term continuing resolution

October 1, 2006

Congress passed a short-term continuing resolution (CR) last week before adjourning. The CR expires November 17. Labor-HHS programs will stay tunded at the FY06 levels for the duration of the CR.

Funding at the FY06 level includes $37.5 million for Learn & Serve America, approximately $3.4 million more than that included in the President’s budget and initially passed by the House this summer.

Since the CR does not extend into FY 07, additional action on the budget must take place to fund next year’s activities.

Even though your Congressional delegation is focused on the up-coming election, it is a good time to invite them to come visit your programs, see the great work you are doing, and meet with voters.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
