Funding for Learn and Serve America

Campus Compact initiated a campaign to advocate for restored funding for Learn and Serve America (LSA), a federal program that supports service-learning. The President’s proposed FY 2008 budget provides $32.1 million for LSA, down from its traditional funding level of $43 million, endangering many valuable programs. In March, Campus Compact gathered signatures from more than 220 member presidents on a letter to House and Senate appropriators Adobe Acrobat Document highlighting the role of higher education in promoting the public good and outlining how LSA supports this role. This letter, as well as letters from Campus Compact’s coalition partners Service-Learning United and Voices for National Service, was hand-delivered to Capitol Hill on March 27 to guide budget deliberations.

Campus Compact's workshops have been extremely valuable. Faculty often become energized by the workshop content and bring that enthusiasm back to campus."
