The Senate is considering the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the economic stimulus package. In the bill is $200 million for AmeriCorps, including AmeriCorps*VISTA. This item is in jeopardy of being cut from the bill. We urge you to contact your Senators immediately and advocate for AmeriCorps funding to remain in the stimulus bill. The House has already passed their version which includes $200 million for AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps members support non-profit organizations that are helping Americans who are struggling in this time of economic crisis. The AmeriCorps member receives a stipend and an education award for college, investing in the education of our future leaders. National Service is a good human capital investment in our economy!
