It’s early on a Sunday afternoon in late April 2009, and in a second-floor classroom at Binghamton University’s Down-town Center, a group of graduate students are discussing the issues raised when good intentions meet the bottom line.
“It’s not that any of these organizations aren’t deserving of funding,” asserts Lauren Elick MPA ’09, echoing remarks others have made earlier. “But there were set guidelines — and they didn’t follow our rules.”…
The project is funded by an $ı8,000 grant from The Fidelity® Charitable Gift Fund and Campus Compact, co-sponsors of a program intended to encourage community-based learning and partnerships between colleges and universities and local nonprofit organizations.
