Western Michigan University did something last fall that no other state school had — hand a free education to 51 former foster youths….
Surveys of former foster youths suggest just one, maybe two, in 20 get a college degree. But WMU’s 51 were determined.

The experience of interacting with some of the [homeless] people on the streets was an eye-opener. You leave those types of experiences with a mix of emotions--hope, disgust, love, grief--but I always leave motivated to do more.
