The Art in Service internship

Maine College of Art - ME, Maine

Internships can provide opportunities for learning and service without the academic tie. The Art in Service internship at the Maine College of Art is overseen by a coordinator as a year-long internship or independent study. Interns spend fifteen hours weekly on site, and a minimum of two hours preparing. The coordinator meets with students and their supervisors three times each semester: first to plan the internship, then to observe progress, and finally to assess impact.

Before I started working in community service-learning, I was one of those people who didn't have much of a social conscience. Now all of that has changed, and I say, 'Put me in the trenches to do the real work to make a difference.'"
