Community service activities on many campuses are hard to assess because they aren t connected to any single office. However, simply creating a new office in no way guarantees that students engaged in service will report to that office. When Lehigh University formed a new community service office, they turned to existing service organizations for assistance. Since the Greek system at Lehigh is a source of much service activity, the office offered stipends to student leaders at fraternities and sororities to coordinate ongoing service activities out of the office. In this way, hundreds of students already involved in service are now reporting their efforts, making tracking and assessment possible.
