Bridging the Digital Divide

University of Pennsylvania - PA, Pennsylvania

To increase community technology access and knowledge in West Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania created the AmeriCorps Program to bridge the digital divide. This program, begun in January 2001, partners the university with local schools, community centers, and faith-based organizations in a multi-layered effor.t to provide computer access and training to West Philadephia residents who cannot afford their own computers. Students teach residents how to use the computers and maintain the machines for community use.
