Computer training for the physically and developmentally challenged

Mercyhurst College - PA, Pennsylvania

Students at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, put their computer skills to work in Independence House, a home for the physically and developmentally challenged. Using computers donated by General Electric, twenty students train residents in the use of basic software. First, they upgrade the systems and tailor machines to make them easier for people with disabilities to manipulate. After a briefing with the director of the house about working with this population, students install the machines and begin to train residents in WordPerfect and Excel.
