A Successful Community-Based Partnership: Formation and Achievements

Temple University - PA, Pennsylvania

The academic-community partnership between the Department of Nursing, College of Allied Health Professions, Temple University, and two Philadelphia public housing developments called Temple Health Connection responds creatively as a new model for health care.

The partnership publishes a newsletter on lead poison issues and a group has developed raps, t-shirts, chants, and photography that educates people about lead poisoning.Through after-school programs, camps, and block parties that focused on lead poisoning prevention there has been at 27% increase in the number of children tested for lead poisoning in the neighborhood. Children have also shown decreased lead levels.
