The Hart Leadership Program

Duke University - NC, North Carolina

The Hart Leadership Program combines rigorous academic courses with structured opportunities for students to practice skills and apply knowledge outside of the classroom. Goals of the program are to help students:

-face community issues with open minds and ears, discovering values, concerns, and political issues
-learn what it is to live in a democractic society and the responsibilties that go with citizenship
-understand that they have power and that one of the most effective things they can do is teach others to have power of their own

The Upper Midwest Campus Compact Consortium's Student Civic Leadership Institute was the most amazing thing that I have experienced in a long, long time. It is truly what my soul has been searching for. It is justification for all the hard work we do, from Student Senate to service-learning. I returned a rejuvenated and refreshed student who is willing and ready to begin the change."
