Character Camp

College of the Ozarks - MO, Missouri

Character camp is a two-week orientation designed for new students to begin the process of acquiring the values of maturity and responsibility through service to others. Character Camp requires new students to work in groups on service projects both on and off campus. Students participating in Character Camp use case studies to learn about character and ethics; complete an outdoor challenge course that emphasizes trust and responsibility; attend an Etiquette Banquet that teaches the importance of high personal and social standards; and sign an honor code card. New students are placed into groups called “”families”" facilitated by upper-level student leaders called “”Moms and Pops”" to help them through the camp and their first year on the College of the Ozarks campus.

[Campus Compact's] student symposia have been very valuable to our student leaders. These conferences have been a great way to network with other schools and share ideas."
