The Walt Whitman Center for the Culture and Politics of Democracy develops and promotes program models that strive to enable individuals to serve others while fostering an understanding of the meaning of democratic citizenship. Through service learning, the Center encourages students to view citizenship as a way of linking the self with others ina web of common values and common pursuits. The Center also works with CASE, Rutgers’ Citizenship and Service Education program which seeks to combine service and learning across the undergraduate curriculum.
