Bennion Center

University of Utah - UT, Utah
President: Bernhard Machen

The Bennion Center at the University of Utah, an office that supports both curricular and co-curricular service projects, strives to empower students and faculty to work independently by providing them with a clearinghouse of information about opportunities for community service and community engagement in Salt Lake City. Motivated students are sent to work with the refrain you re in charge. These students, in turn, serve as teaching assistants for first-time service-learning faculty members. Support structures such as a faculty advisory committee and service-learning scholars program reflect the high expectations the center has for its students and faculty.

My own service-learning experience helped me to change my undergraduate major to social work. As a student worker with the program, I gained so many skills that helped me to be successful as a social worker and change agent after graduation. Now I help student workers develop these same skills and find the same passion for creating positive change that I have felt."
