A president redefines the university as an engaged partner

Metropolitan State University - MN, Minnesota
President: Dennis N. Nielson

Through their words, their decisions, and their leadership, presidents can define the role of their campus. At Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota, President Susan Cole has been instrumental in redefining the university as an engaged partner in the community. During President Cole s tenure, the university has regularly held discussions with St. Paul residents to share their visions and ideas for the community. This has led to countless new projects and partnerships between Metro State and various public schools and community organizations.

The experience of interacting with some of the [homeless] people on the streets was an eye-opener. You leave those types of experiences with a mix of emotions--hope, disgust, love, grief--but I always leave motivated to do more."
