Developing a relationship with the Mayor’s office

Fitchburg State College - MA, Massachusetts
President: Michael Riccards

We have initiated a wonderful working relationship with the Mayor’s office in Fitchburg. Just a month ago we hosted the first annual Spring Festival with the City of Fitchburg on our campus. Two hundred and seventy-five children, along with parents and friends, hunted for Easter eggs, played games and generally had a wonderful time. Twenty-one student volunteers participated in that event. This was a follow-up to our support of the Mayor’s Christmas Parade and the City Halloween Party. Both of these events had 20 student volunteers participate.

I consider Campus Compact to be one of the most enlightened and farsighted ventures that American colleges and universities have undertaken.... It provides evidence that there are, in the world of higher education, people more than willing to pitch in, people of vision and commitment."

-John Gardner, former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare
