Often, the advances in science that teachers tell their students about in class are going on right next door at a research university. By sharing their facilities with teachers, universities can help them bring lessons to life. In Seattle, the University of Washington provides training and support for high school science teachers through the High School Genome Project. Faculty train teachers to sequence DNA and provide them with a teaching module on genetics which raises related ethical issues. University students also go to the high schools where they conduct training, assist in laboratories, and supply technology for science classrooms.
