For some community members, a lack of basic job skills stands between them and economic opportunity, but knowing where and how to find training may be the biggest obstacle. In Taupin Springs, Florida, the University of South Florida established a one-stop job development program to help residents of five local neighborhoods in and around campus develop these skills in a variety of areas. Staffed by work-study students, the center provides an assortment of technical training as well as courses to help community members attain their Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).
