Tutoring for homeless children

Guilford College - NC, North Carolina

Each semester, thirty volunteers and service-learning students at Guilford College tutor homeless children five days a week. Two tiers of student leadership have kept the program running for five years. A leadership team oversees the daily operation of the program, while three student liaisons discuss the children s strengths and weaknesses with their elementary school teachers and relay the information to the children s parents and to Guilford tutors.

We have received constant support and reinforcement. It is very obvious that they [Campus Compact staff] want us to succeed and are willing to go out of their way to help us in any way."
