To try to raise the numbers of SUNY graduates who teach in New York City after graduation the unviersity is planning to open a teacher education center in New York City. The center will help place student teachers in city schools as well as support and study SUNY graduates who take city teaching jobs.
SUNY’s plan calls for 15 campus coordinators, a full-time liaison with the New York City Borad of Educaiton, and $162,000 in subsidies to house student teachers 9abiyt $300 per semester). SUNY estimates the total cost of the urban center at about $1.1 million.
