Freshman and Sophomore year experiences in teaching

LaSalle University - PA, Pennsylvania

Freshman Year: In their introductory courses (e.g. 101, 201, 203), students begin with observation and clerical or instructional assistance, tasks like reading stories, giving or correcting tests, doing bulletin boards, or leading lines to the yard. In situations where both the student and the cooperating teacher feel comfortable, the university student may progress eventually into tutoring individuals and small groups of students or other forms of instructional or supervisory assistance under the guidance of the cooperating teacher. In addition, the students will have a number of set observational or interview assignments to be conducted in the course of the semester.

Sophomore Year: In their intermediate courses (e.g. EDC 204, 218, etc ), the focus is on learning processes. Students should spend most of their weekly hours after some initial observations tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups.
